The Goal

When the Rochester Area Family Y approached CWS through its CWS Cares program, there were three goals they hoped to achieve:

  • Make website brand compliant with YMCA of the USA
  • Have a mobile-friendly website
  • Sustain the Rochester Area Family Y’s mission to turn no one away due to inability to pay by highlighting Memberships and Donations

Our Solution

Web Designer, Sarah Link, worked within the visual standards and requirements of the Y.

Web Developer, Joe Milbach, came up with a script that auto generated the elements for each page based on the color scheme selected. This made updating and adding additional color schemes easy.

The eCMS, a Content Management System developed by CWS Programmer Eric Reynolds has been a key part of the solution. The ease of the system empowers users to make changes and updates without being intimidated. The system includes a Gallery Plugin that allows clients to update images and choose the appropriate sizes in the gallery section with ease. Updating prominent call-outs and all the site’s details is easy for the client to manage.

Special Considerations

Conforming to National YMCA standards in graphics and voice; and, focusing on the importance of presenting the Rochester Area Family Y as a cause unified with YMCA on a national level. Shared values and a common voice is critical to the Y’s overall Movement and ability to advance their cause.

The Rochester Area Family Y has a diverse amount of content to share with an audience that has an equally diverse amount of needs: classes, events, fund drives, programming, community resources and more. Much of the information they need to share changes with the seasons.

Results

A dramatic increase in engagement. “It’s unreal how many more online responses we receive. I’ve never been this involved with responding to contact forms, which is good,” said Sarah Brandt, Rochester Area Family Y Communications / Development Director. “We always had a contact form. On our old site we would receive 1-2 contacts per week through it. Now it’s 2-3 contacts per day.

What are people contacting the Rochester Area Family Y for through their website?

“It’s really all over the place,” said Brandt. From gifting a membership to family members to setting up private swim lessons.

Duration of time people spend on the Rochester Area Family Y’s website pages has increased.

“Our Program Directors are thrilled with the new look and navigation on the site,” said Brandt. According to Brandt, the Program Directors are taking greater ownership of their program pages.

“It’s been such a blessing,” said Brandt. “We’re just so thrilled.”
