Carson DeKeyrel born 6/14/06

You may have noticed that this blog has been quiet as of late. The reason is that I have been busy attending to family as much as possible. On June 5th, my wifes embryonic fluid began to leak at 24 weeks into her pregnancy (a normal pregnancy is 40 weeks). She was hospitalized immediately and we spent the next 10 days trying to postpone delivery and prevent infection. However, an infection did occur and continued to worsen. On Wednesday, June 14th, they decided that it was no longer safe for the baby to be "inside" and performed a c-section. Carson John DeKeyrel was born at 3:18pm weighing only 1 lbs. 11 oz.

They immediately intubated him (for breathing), installed an IV, and provided various medications to stablize him. As of today, he is doing well at St. Mary's Neonatal Intentive Care Unit (NICU). We have been updating family and friends about the situation using a beta version of GroupLoop. When the story broke on Jeff Kiger's blog, I figured that I should probably make an annoucement on the CWS blog too.

My wife is now home from the hospital and we are slowly settling into a daily routine that involves seeing our little one at the hospital. Carson will remain in the NICU for approximately 3 months. If everything continues to go well we should have him home around his original due date of September 25th. Thank you to everyone who has been so supportive and encouraging throughout this event, we wouldn't have been able to do it without you.

Congrats!!!! Glad to hear everything is going well.

I can't believe how tiny he is. Seeing the comparison between your ring and his arm on the second picture is amazing! Definitely a photo for the "baby book".

Every now and then I see visitors finding this page while searching for "embryonic fluid leak". While I will never know who you are, I wanted to post an update as to my son's condition. He is now 10 weeks old, doing very well, and I expect we'll be bringing him home soon.

If you found this post because you are in a similar situation... keep the faith. Miracles do happen and although it may be a frightening situation, you will get through it. God Bless.
